National Broiler Project Engages HTU Management on Modern Poultry Initiative

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Ho Technical University, Prof. Christopher Mensah, together with members of University Management, on Friday, May 8, 2026, received a delegation from the National Broiler Project Directorate under the Office of the Minister of State in Charge of Special Initiatives in the Office of the President.

The delegation, led by the National Coordinator, Mr. Kelvin Ocran, outlined the strategic benefits of the proposed modern poultry estate, stressing its alignment with academic programmes in Agricultural and Animal Science, Hospitality and Catering, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Applied Sciences.

He explained that the estate would serve as a hands-on training facility, offering students real-time exposure to poultry production systems, feed formulation, farm management, processing, packaging, and cold chain logistics. He emphasized that the project is designed to ensure poultry sufficiency in the country while providing employment opportunities for young people.

Prof. Mensah, speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and Management, expressed appreciation for the Secretariat’s interest in working with the University. He underscored HTU’s readiness to collaborate in advancing practical training and industry-focused research that will empower students, create employment opportunities, and contribute to food security in Ghana. He further noted that HTU has both the space and the human resource to host and sustain the project, and called for continued engagements on modalities to ensure smooth implementation.

Beyond the University, the initiative is expected to stimulate local economic activity, empower farmers through integration into the poultry value chain, and support import substitution by reducing Ghana’s dependence on imported poultry products.

The visit marked a significant step towards strengthening institutional partnerships and positioning Ho Technical University as a centre of excellence in agribusiness, food systems innovation, and applied research.

In attendance were the Ag. Registrar, Dr. Michael Todoko, Directors of Finance, Works & Physical Development, Academic Affairs, Public Affairs, as well as Faculty Deans and Heads of Department.
