Ho Technical University (HTU) over the weekend hosted the 9th Tertiary Cadet Corps Congress, bringing together cadet corps from eight tertiary institutions for three days of leadership exercises, drills, and camaraderie.
Held from 20th to 22nd June, 2025, the event underscored the role of cadet training in promoting discipline, service, and national unity.
Participating institutions included Takoradi Technical University, Koforidua Technical University, the University of Cape Coast, the University of Education, Winneba, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Accra Technical University, the University of Mines and Technology, and the host, Ho Technical University.

A key highlight was the drill competition held on Saturday, 21st June, 2025, at the Jubilee Park in Ho, where contingents demonstrated their military drill prowess in a keenly contested display.
At the end of the contest, the HTU SRC Army Cadet Corps impressed both judges and the public, earning first place, ahead of the University of Cape Coast and Koforidua Technical University, who placed second and third respectively. HTU’s cadet commander, Divine Pentem, was also honoured as Best Commander of the competition.
The regimental bands from the University of Cape Coast and KNUST added ceremonial splendour to the occasion.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, expressed profound pride in the University’s performance and organisation of the event. “This congress has demonstrated the strength of cadet training in preparing future leaders—disciplined, united, and committed to service,” he noted. He also highlighted its importance in shaping morally upright leaders.
Prof. Elizabeth Obinnim, Dean of Students, urged cadets to embrace responsibility, integrity, and unity. “As cadets, you are symbols of leadership and discipline. You salute one flag—the Black Star—and you march forward as one Ghana,” she stated. Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, who earlier welcomed the contingents, charged to them carry along the cadet values into their various fields of endevour.
Rtd. Cdt. Jennifer Esenam Kofituo, National Coordinator of the Tertiary Cadet Corps Council, commended the cadets for their discipline and fortitude. She also lauded management of HTU for being an excellent host.

Capt. Martin Attah, who represented the Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, as reviewing officer, reaffirmed the cadet corps’ contribution to national cohesion and charged them to remain disciplined and loyal to the national cause.
HTU’s hosting and commanding presence throughout the congress reinforced its growing reputation in leadership development and civic engagement within Ghana’s tertiary landscape.
