57 HTU STUDENTS AWARDED FAWE GHANA-MASTERCARD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Fifty-seven (57) students of Ho Technical University (HTU) are among the first beneficiaries of the FAWE Ghana-Mastercard Foundation Scholarship, joining a cohort of 200 selected nationwide for the 2024/2025 academic year to pursue three-year STEM-related programmes at partner technical universities.

The scholarship presentation ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium, marked a significant step toward equitable access to technical education for female students and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Speaking at the event, FAWE Ghana’s Programmes Manager, madam Anna Nabere, underscored the comprehensive nature of the scholarship, which provides support beyond tuition, including accommodation, learning materials, transportation, mentorship, and leadership development. She commended HTU’s selection committee for ensuring a fair and transparent process.

Dr. Leticia Effah-Manu, HTU Gender Affairs Officer and Focal Person for the FAWE Ghana programme, described the initiative as a ray of hope for deprived young people, especially girls, enabling them to overcome socio-economic barriers and achieve academic excellence.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, expressed appreciation to FAWE Ghana and the Mastercard Foundation for their commitment to transforming lives through education. He reaffirmed HTU’s dedication to fostering high-quality technical education and leadership development among beneficiaries.

He urged recipients to remain focused and seize the opportunity to build meaningful futures. Some of the scholarship recipients shared emotional testimonies on how the support had renewed their academic aspirations.

In attendance were parents and guardians of the beneficiaries, officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service from the Volta and Oti regions, and the Volta Regional Director of Gender.
