The Faculty of Engineering of the University on Tuesday, March 4, celebrated World Engineering Day with a clarion call on engineers to prioritize integrity and sustainability in their work.
This year’s celebration, held under the theme “Unleashing the Power of Engineers to Advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, highlighted the critical role engineers play in achieving the SDGs.
Ing. Sophia Abena Tijani, a renowned electrical engineer and Vice President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), delivered the keynote address. She emphasized the importance of purpose-driven innovation, integrity, and sustainability in engineering work.

Ing. Tijani encouraged engineers to uphold ethical practices, avoid corruption, and work for the public good. She also stressed the need for lifelong learning, mentoring, and supporting younger engineers.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga commended Ing. Tijani for her inspiring address and encouraged engineers to leverage modern technology to drive innovation and improve livelihoods.

The Dean of Engineering, Prof. Maxwell Akple, welcomed participants and acknowledged the significance of World Engineering Day.
Dr. Ing. Patricia Asantewaa Tannor, Patron of Women in Engineering (WINE), urged students to register with professional engineering bodies and work hard to achieve their goals.
The celebration drew students, faculty, and industry professionals.
