HTU ENHANCES RISK MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK WITH WORKSHOP

The University has taken a proactive step towards strengthening its risk management framework with a workshop for senior administrators, held on Wednesday, February 26.

The workshop brought together Management members, Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments (HoDs) to discuss the importance of risk management in the University’s operations.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga emphasized the need for a proactive approach to risk management, citing financial, operational, and reputational risks. “The university is exposed to various risks, and it’s imperative that we identify and mitigate them to ensure sustainability,” Prof. Honyenuga said.

He noted that the workshop formed part of the University’s efforts to strengthen its risk management governance and ensure compliance.

Mr. Joseph Kwabena Dwumfuor, Risk Officer from the University of Ghana’s Directorate of Risk Management, facilitated the workshop, and shared his expertise on risk management and its benefits.

He emphasized the importance of a bottom-up structured approach to risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.

Participants reviewed a draft risk management policy, including the Risk Register, which outlines the University’s approach to risk management. The policy aims to provide a framework for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, commended the facilitator and participants, including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, for their engagement and committed to ensuring the policy’s successful implementation.

Through this workshop, HTU aims to minimize potential risks and ensure operational continuity by enhancing its risk management framework.
