Prof. Christopher Mensah Delivers HTU’s Second Inaugural Lecture

Ho Technical University (HTU) has held its second inaugural lecture, with Prof. Christopher Mensah, Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management and current Pro‑Vice‑Chancellor, becoming the second professor of the university to deliver the prestigious academic discourse.

The lecture, on the theme “Hidden Curriculum: Toxic Socialisation in Ghana’s Higher Education and Hospitality Sector,” provided Prof. Mensah the platform to present his scholarly reflections on challenges confronting students, academics and professionals within the higher education and hospitality sectors.

An alumnus of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Mensah joined the then Ho Polytechnic in 2008 as an instructor and rose steadily through the academic ranks until his elevation to the rank of professor in March 2025. His inaugural lecture marked the culmination of years of teaching, research, academic leadership and professional development, and stands as a milestone in both his career and the academic history of HTU.

With more than 65 peer‑reviewed publications, Professor Mensah has conducted research in tourism development, hospitality management, human resource management, destination marketing, sustainable tourism, academic integrity, service quality, employee well‑being and student development. He has also contributed significantly to the administration and growth of HTU, serving as Departmental Examination Officer, Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, member of statutory committees and boards, and Pro‑Vice‑Chancellor.

Preceding the lecture, the University Library organised a three‑day scholarly exhibition showcasing his journal publications, conference papers, book chapters, research reports and collaborative projects.

The Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, who delivered the maiden inaugural lecture of the university in 2025, described the second lecture as an important milestone in HTU’s commitment to scholarship, innovation, research excellence and academic distinction. He noted that inaugural lectures provide professors with a platform to present the intellectual journey and body of scholarly work that have shaped their careers and contributed to society.

Chairing the ceremony, Prof. Honyenuga commended the inaugural lecturer for his dedication to scholarship and for advancing HTU’s reputation as a hub of academic excellence. He urged faculty and students to draw inspiration from such milestones and to deepen their commitment to research, innovation and professional development.

The colourful ceremony featured the donning of the professorial gown by Prof. Mensah and the presentation of various gifts from stakeholders and family members in celebration of his achievement.

The event brought together management, faculty, staff and students of HTU, as well as family members and invited guests, including the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.

The second inaugural lecture thus celebrated Professor Mensah’s academic achievements and affirmed HTU’s growing culture of scholarship, research, innovation and academic excellence.
