NEW HEAD OF SECURITY TAKES OVER COMMAND OF SECURITY UNIT

In a brief but colourful ceremony held at the Forecourt of the F.O. Kwami Block, WOI (Rtd) Issifu Zakaria has officially assumed command as the new Head of Security at the University on Friday, September 13, 2024.

The Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, introduced Mr. Zakaria to personnel of the Security Unit during a parade, witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga and his Management team, including, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Christopher Mensah and other University Directors.

With 28 years of experience in the Ghana Armed Forces, Mr. Zakaria brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. His academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Logistics and Supply Chain Management), a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, and a Certificate in Forensic Investigative Psychology and Security Management.

The ceremony, which marked the handover from Mr. Faustinus Axatsa, Principal Security Officer, who had been acting in the role, also marked the unveiling of a new uniform for the security unit.

The Vice-Chancellor in his remarks emphasized the critical role of security in the University administration. He expressed confidence in Mr. Zakaria’s experience and academic profile, which will bring a new era to campus security. He called for cooperation and support from personnel to enable Mr. Zakaria to discharge his mandate effectively. He also assured the personnel of more logistical support to boost their operations and urged them to be dedicated to duty.

In a brief address, Mr. Zakaria assured that he would “hit the ground running” and go beyond what has been done so far. He pledged to enhance the image and operations of the Security Unit, thanking Management for the confidence reposed in him and pledging to give his utmost best in the role.

The ceremony saw a brief drill display by the personnel.
