Following HTU’s triumph on the inaugural Joy Prime television cooking reality show, Big Chef Tertiary, Management has applauded the contestants and their coaches for bringing pride to the University.
At a meeting on Tuesday, October 3rd, to present their award to Management, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga highly commended the contestants – Anyantson Sandra, Binbime Elizabeth, and Agbedanu Godsway for solidifying HTU’s reputation as the best hospitality training institution in the country.
“Winning competitions like this is a testament to the quality of training we offer at HTU,” he stated, congratulating the team, including the coaches, for raising HTU’s flag high among its peers.
While assuring the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management of continuous support, the VC also encouraged them to maintain the momentum and conduct regular practicals in preparation for future contests.
Madam Otilia Adzinyo, the Head of Department, expressed gratitude on behalf of the team to Management and the entire University community for the massive show of support, especially through the public votes, which constituted 30% of the final score.
The contestants also shared their anxiety during the contest but said the coaching received from their lecturers propelled them to victory.
The grand finale of the 13-week culinary contest, which featured contestants from Ho Technical University, Takoradi Technical University, and Kumasi Technical University, was held on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the SRC JCR.
At the end of the contest, team HTU outshone the other finalists with intriguing creativity in executing the day’s task – preparing a three-course meal within the one-and-a-half-hour allocated time.
The team, in the preliminary stages of the competition, won the “Star School of the Day” award four times in a row, making them favorites at the grand finale.
For their prize, HTU received a cash prize of GHC 20,000, a 10,000-litre Sintex tank, and various products from sponsors.
