Ho Technical University (HTU) commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with a campus-wide clean-up exercise on Friday, 5 June 2026, jointly led by the Departments of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science.
Held under the theme “Keeping Ho Technical University Clean: Be Inspired for Action,” the campaign brought together more than 100 students, lecturers, and staff who worked to tidy sections of the university campus while promoting environmental responsibility and proper waste disposal.
Dr. Selase Kofi Adanu, Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Ing. Dr. Mrs. Patricia Asantewaa-Tannor, Acting Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, spearheaded the exercise.
They emphasized the importance of cultivating sustainable habits, urging students and the wider university community to refrain from littering and to recognize that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility.
“We must all play our part in protecting the environment. The habit of littering must stop. Small actions, such as disposing of waste properly, can make a significant difference in keeping our surroundings clean, healthy, and safe,” Ing. Dr. Asantewaa-Tannor stated.
She further noted that indiscriminate waste disposal not only mars the beauty of the campus but also poses health risks and undermines efforts to create a conducive atmosphere for learning.
The clean-up formed part of HTU’s activities to mark World Environment Day, encouraging practical action towards environmental protection and sustainability.
The event concluded with a renewed call on students and staff to uphold responsible practices and contribute to preserving the university’s environment for future generations.
