The Students Representative Council (SRC), led by President Theophilous Biney, officially handed over a mechanised borehole system located at the Asogli Block (V-block) complex to the University Management on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
In his remarks, President Biney recounted the inconsistent flow of water in the washrooms on the block, making it his campaign pledge to rectify this issue. He was elated to have fulfilled that promise with the support of stakeholders and underscored the significance of the water system in alleviating the concerns of both the student body and the wider university community. President Biney stressed that the project underscores the SRC’s steadfast commitment to enhancing student experience and contributing to the University’s ongoing development efforts.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, who commissioned the project, commended the SRC’s dedication to enhancing campus facilities. He highlighted the borehole’s importance, noting its alignment with the University’s strategic direction of ensuring sustainable water supply on campus. He further lauded the SRC for spearheading initiatives such as the procurement of band instruments and new cadet uniforms, which have significantly enriched campus life.
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed ongoing projects at the University, including the completion of the upper floor of the Agric Engineering block and the acquisition of classroom furniture.
“As management, we are not sitting down. We have also completed the upper floor of the Agric Engineering block with 14 offices and purchased 300 classroom chairs for teaching and learning. Plans are under for the revamping of the Department of Hospitality.
Mr. Nicholas Awagah, the Director of Works and Physical Development, who supervised the execution, stated that the borehole is a 100-meter deep well with high yielding capacity, and would provide water to key areas including the Asogli block, Afadzato block, and commercial areas on campus.
Present at the commissioning ceremony were Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Christopher Mensah, Registrar Dr. Christopher Amehoe, Dean of Students Affairs Dr. Elizabeth Obinnim, along with other Directors.
