The Council of Ho Technical University has promoted two distinguished faculty members to the rank of Professor, marking another significant stride in the University’s academic advancement.
Their promotion was contained in a notice issued by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. C.K. Amehoe, following the 119th Regular Meeting of Council held on Wednesday, 26th November 2025. The notice explained that the promotions were approved on the recommendations of a Special Appointments and Promotions Board, after rigorous assessments of publications and scholarly contributions by external reviewers.
Prof. Christopher Mensah, Associate Professor in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management and current Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, was elevated to the rank of Professor effective 5th March 2025. His promotion was based on the recommendation of a Special Review Panel of Professors, which highlighted his extensive teaching experience, impactful research, and community service spanning over seventeen years.
Council praised Prof. Mensah for enhancing HTU’s visibility through international collaborations, grantsmanship, and scholarship. He becomes the first faculty member in his department and the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology to attain the rank of Professor.

Prof. Maxwell Edem Azila-Gbettor, Associate Professor in the Department of Management Sciences and Dean of the HTU Business School, was also promoted to Professor effective 21st August 2025. With over twenty-three years of academic service, Prof. Azila-Gbettor was recognized for his immense contribution to knowledge, teaching, and community engagement.
Council commended him for advancing the University’s reputation through scholarly works and noted that he is the second faculty member in his department to rise to the rank of Professor.
Their promotion brings to three the number of full Professors in the University, following Prof. Ben Honyenuga, the Vice-Chancellor, who was the first to attain the rank.
