Article Building

As part of efforts by the Ho Technical University to give true meaning to Technical and Vocational Education and Training, students of the Department of Building Technology have started building a 3- bedroom bungalow as part of their practical works.
Hitherto, materials provided for such practical works are used to build in the Laboratory and demolished afterwards.
The students, with the help of their Lecturers, are involved at each stage of the project from Planning, drawing, setting out, and laying of blocks to finishing.
During a tour of the project site on March 4, 2019, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ben Quarshie Honyenuga commended the students and lecturers for their hard work and pledged his support to ensure that the Department undertake many of such projects in the University. He urged the students to embrace the concept of putting up actual structures instead of miniature ones that are destroyed.
The Acting Head of Department, Dr Divine Novieto, was so grateful to the Vice Chancellor for giving the Department the opportunity to implement the project to help students have a feel of what they learn in the classroom.
“This is also a cost effective way of ensuring that materials for practical works do not go waste while also getting the students to perform real tasks that equip them for industry.”-said Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga.
