The Governing Council of the Ho Technical University, upon the Recommendation of the University’s Appointment and Promotions Board, has promoted a senior lecturer in the department of Management Sciences of the HTU Business School, Dr. Ben Quarshie Honyenuga to the grade of Associate Professor of Management at its 26th Special Meeting held on September, 2018. Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga happens to be the first to be promoted to the Professorial rank by the University.
Professor Honyenuga holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology; Masters in Public Administration from the University of Ghana Business School; Master of Philosophy from the Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands; He also holds a Certificate in Management of Higher Education Institutions from Galilee International Management Institute, Israel. Prof. Honyenuga obtained a PhD degree in Management from the Open University of the Netherlands, Heerlen (July 2015).
Professor Honyenuga is currently the Interim Pro-Vice- Chancellor of Ho Technical University (September 1, 2015 – Date). Prior to that, he served as Dean of Students at the erstwhile Ho Polytechnic for two terms (January 2012- August 2015). He was also the Coordinator, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Institute of Distance Learning) Programmes at Ho Centre for eight years (July 2007- August 2015). Dr. Honyenuga represented Convocation at the Ho Polytechnic Governing Council (2006- 2009). He also represented the Academic Staff at the Ho Polytechnic Entity Tender Committee (2007 – 2009) and Coordinator, NUFFIC/IEPA-UCC Leadership, Capacity Building and Change Management Project (2005-2009).
Prof. Honyenuga was appointed as an Instructor at Ho Polytechnic in December, 1997, promoted to Senior Instructor in January 2003, appointed Assistant Lecturer in March 2004 and in June 2004 he was appointed Lecturer. In July 2010, Prof. Ben Honyenuga was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer and in July 2017, he was appointed on promotion to the grade of Associate Professor.
Prof. Honyenuga has rich experience in teaching for two decades at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses taught include: Public Systems Management, Managing Human Resource, Management and Organisation, Public Policy, Policy Analysis and Implementation, Strategic Management, Leadership and Corporate Governance, Meetings and Events Management, Hospitality Business and Hospitality Law. He has also supervised a number of undergraduate students, 29 Master degree theses and currently co- supervising 5 PhD candidates from the Open University of the Netherlands, Heerlen.
Prof. Honyenuga has attended and presented papers in a number of National and International Academic Conferences and has over 30 publications to his credit as Journal Articles, Edited Book/ Chapters, Refereed Conference Proceedings , Course manuals and Technical Reports. His research publications have appeared in such Journals as International Journal of Tourism Research, Journal of Transnational Management, International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation, International Journal of Business and Globalisation, Journal of Family Business Management, International Journal of Public Leadership, Advances in Hospitality and Leisure, Asia Pacific Journal of Business and Management and African Journal of Technical Education and Management.
In January 2012, Prof. Honyenuga was appointed Management and Organisation Expert by JBP Consult, contracted by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) to monitor and evaluate the 2010 performance of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central and Western Regions using the Functional Assessment and Organisational Tool (FOAT). The performance based assessment was to enable qualifying MMDAs access the District Development Facility (DDF) which is supported by DANIDA and other Development Partners.
Prof. Honyenuga is a UN Certified Trainer of Trainers in Conflict Transformation. He is a member of International Management Development Association (IMDA), Ghana Institute of Management, Decisions Sciences Institute and the British Academy of Management. He has hands on experience in Organizational Development, HRM, Leadership, Change and Innovation Management. He is in attendance at the Ho Technical University Governing Council, a Member of Development Committee, Finance Committee, and Appointment and Promotions Committee of Ho Technical University Council. He is also a member of the Academic Board and its sub committees. Prof. Honyenuga was also the Board Chairman of Volta Waste Ltd a subsidiary of JOSPONG Group of Companies. His travel experience include: UK, USA, Israel, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, and Togo. He enjoys playing tennis and listening to countryside music. His current research interests focus on Knowledge Management, Management Innovation, High Performance Organisations, African Business and Entrepreneurship. In the Maiden Ho Polytechnic Alumni Excellence Awards in June 2011, Prof. Honyenuga won the Best Academic Staff Award.
