M B Seeds Agro Ent Devt

As part of efforts to breach the academia-industry gap, the Department of Agro Enterprise Development has secured the support of M&B Seeds for logistics supply, knowledge sharing and internship for students of the Department.

Students of the Department have been undertaking their internship and practical training at the production sites of the company, M&D Seeds in Ho, where they are taken through practices of plant breeding and related farming practices.

As part of the support of M&B Seeds to the Department, the company provides fertilizers, chemicals and farm implements for students’ practical works on the University farms.

During a recent working visit to the farm, the Chief Executive Officer of M&B Seeds, Ben Kemetse, took students through some rudiments of nursery and replanting on the University farms, located behind Volta Premier FM. He also shared with them some symptoms of the devastating Fall Army Worms which have ravaged several farms in Ghana in recent times. He also shared with the students techniques to curb and prevent the disease on the farm.

He reiterated ‘weeds bring disease and fights for water with plants, and should be regarded as enemy to the farmer.”
The CEO of M&B Seeds expressed satisfaction at the progress of work by the students on their respective farm projects. He called for further and closer collaboration between industry players and the University for mutual benefit.
‘’These kind of partnerships would ensure value for money for employers and industrialists.’’- He stressed.

Dr. Kenneth Fafa Egbadzor who supervises the practical farm works assured Mr. Kemetse of the readiness of the Department to share field research findings with the company for mutual benefit.
